Chromebook Help

Teachers and students are using Chromebooks in classrooms to enhance instruction through the DCSD Digital Dreamers Program.  Digital Dreamers is a comprehensive technology program of the DeKalb County School District that aims to increase students’ technological footprints and prepare them to be globally competitive citizens.

In an effort to support students, parents, and teachers with Chromebook issues, a process has been developed to address lost, stolen, and damaged Chromebooks; in addition to chargers and cases. In the event a problem with the Chromebook arises, please follow the steps below in the given order for each specific scenario.  If you have any questions about the processes below, please contact Angela Effatt, Assistant Principal.

Lost Chromebook Process:

If a student loses his or her Chromebook, then these steps must be followed:

  1. Student enters a Student Help Desk ticket in the Media Center.
  2. Student completes a Student Statement form (located in the Media Center).
  3. Parent completes an Affidavit of Loss/Theft form (located in Media Center).
  4. Student returns both above mentioned completed forms together to Ms. Norman in the Media Center.
  5. Student logs into the Help Desk ticket weekly to check for messages from PCMS IT staff.
  6. The student reports to the Media Center on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12:35 PM-1:00 PM to speak with our PCMS IT staff about status of lost Chromebook.

Stolen Chromebook Process:

If a student’s Chromebook is stolen, then these steps must be followed:

  1. Student enters a Student Help Desk ticket in the Media Center.
  2. Parent files a Police Report for the stolen Chromebook.
  3. Student completes a Student Statement form (located in the Media Center).
  4. Parent completes an Affidavit of Loss/Theft form (located in Media Center).
  5. Student returns all three above mentioned completed forms together to Ms. Norman in the Media Center.
  6. Student logs into the Help Desk ticket weekly to check for messages from PCMS IT staff.
  7. The student reports to the Media Center on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12:35 PM-1:00 PM to speak with our PCMS IT staff about status of stolen Chromebook.

Damaged Chromebook Process:

If a Chromebook is damaged, then these steps must be followed:

  1. Student enters a Student Help Desk ticket in the Media Center.
  2. Student needs to bring the Chromebook and a copy of the Help Desk ticket to the Media Center on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12:35 PM-1:00 PM and speak with our PCMS IT staff.
  3. Student logs into the Help Desk ticket weekly to check for messages from PCMS IT staff.
  4. Do not wait until the end of the school year to report damages.

Chargers and Cases (Lost, Stolen, or Damaged) Process:

  1. If a charger or a case becomes damaged, lost, or stolen, then the student enters a Help Desk ticket in the Media Center.
  2. If a charger or a case becomes damaged, lost, or stolen, then the student reports to the Media Center on Tuesdays or Thursdays from 12:35 PM-1:00 PM and speak with our PCMS IT staff.

Digital Dreamers program

Parents - Please know that while we are excited to have the use of Chromebooks for our students, we've encountered a high number being dropped off throughout the day. We will no longer take Chromebooks as a drop off item. If your child forgets his/her Chromebook, they will have use of a laptop at school.

Please also caution your child about leaving their Chromebook on the bus. If a Chromebook is left on the bus, you will need to contact the DeKalb County Transportation Department.
