LATEST  NEWS

Message from our Principal

Greetings Patriot Nation,

I want to again welcome you all to the 2019 – 2020 School Year, and also thank you for an awesome first week of school. Our parents, students, and staff did a phenomenal job this week and really got the school year off to a great start. Way to go PCMS.

I wanted send this notice to make you all aware of the “Peachtree Way,” as well as ensure you attend a few events that are fast approaching. But first, a few reminders:

  1. During dismissal, students must be picked up in the car pool lane. Pick up is not allowed in the parking lot by the PODs.  This is a safety issue, and so we ask that you please adhere to this process.
  2. 3-minute parking in the car pool lane is allowed for student check-out during the day (9:00 AM – 3:30 PM). However, you are limited to 3 minutes and will be asked to move your car to the parking lot if check-out goes beyond 3 minutes.
  3. The YMCA provides a before and after school activities program for any student that needs to be dropped off at PCMS before 8:15 AM or that needs to stay at PCMS after 4:15 PM. Please see the attached flyer to sign your student up for the program. Please know that students are not allowed no campus before 8:15 AM or after 4:15 PM as we do not have staff to monitor, supervise, or protect your students during those times. Please see attached flyer.

The Events

Please come out for our Annual Title I Meeting and Team Night, which both take place on Thursday August 22nd2019.

Our Annual Title I Meeting will provide you with information regarding how Title I funds are spent to support your students. This meeting will also give PCMS staff an opportunity to collect feedback from you as stakeholders. The Title I Meeting will take place on Thursday August 22ndat two different times in an effort to support your schedule. The first meeting will take place at 11:30 – 12:00 in the Media Center, and the second meeting will take place from 5:30 – 6:00 in the PCMS Cafeteria. Both Title I Meetings will provide the same information, so please pick one meeting to attend.

Our Team Night will also take place on Thursday August 22nd2019. Team Night will be from 6:00 – 7:30. Team Night is a time for you to meet each one of your student’s teachers. Teachers will be introducing themselves, informing you about class processes, and what students will learn with them this year.

Please know that Team Night is not a Parent / Teacher conference night, and so teachers will not have time to have an in-depth meeting regarding your individual student. However, you can always email any one of your teachers to schedule a conference for another day.  Please be sure to have your student’s schedule for Team Night, as we will be rotating from 1stperiod, to second period, to 3rdperiod (you get the idea) spending 10 minutes in each class, and providing 3 minutes for transition in between classes. Our goal for Team Night is for you to have a middle school experience as your student travels to 7 different teachers, and 7 different locations, a day. First period classes will begin seating parents at 5:55 PM, and we will start 1stperiod promptly at 6:00 PM (we will try to dismiss our Title I parents a little early to help them get to class on time). Lastly, PCMS Staff will be holding a brief faculty meeting at the end of Team Night, so we will ask that all non-staff members please exit the building promptly at the end of Team Night (7:30 PM).

The “Peachtree Way”

In an effort to provide all of our students with the best instructional environment possible, Peachtree Charter Middle School has developed the “Peachtree Way.” The Peachtree Way refers to how we do things here at PCMS; most specifically with regards to instruction. The PCMS Leadership Team has implemented a Professional Learning Cycle for our teaching staff (which includes expectations for instruction, coaching for teachers, monitoring, feedback and evaluation of instruction) to ensure that our teachers provide your student with an exceptional instructional experience. Our focus is for each class to provide a Standards-Based Instructional Framework, Rigorous activities and questioning, and Data Driven Differentiated Instruction. Please know that the Peachtree Way has been developed and is being implemented in an effort to ensure that your student reaches their full academic potential.

To help parents understand the “Peachtree Way” including our Professional Learning Cycle approach and areas of focus (Framework, Rigor, and Differentiation), PCMS will be hosting Curriculum Nights. Please know that this approach to instruction will address the learning needs of:

  1. Students that have been identified as Gifted
  2. Students that have yet to be identified as Gifted
  3. Students that have been identified as High Achievers
  4. Students that have yet to be identified as High Achievers
  5. Students that receive Special Education Services
  6. Students that receive ESOL Services

Please know that our focus this year is sound instruction for all, to academically grow all students, in all classes at PCMS.

6thGrade Curriculum Night: September 12th2019 from 6:00 – 7:30 in the PCMS Cafeteria.

7thGrade Curriculum Night: September 17th2019 from 6:00 – 7:30 in the PCMS Cafeteria.

8thGrade Curriculum Night: September 18th2019 from 6:00 – 7:30 in the PCMS Cafeteria.

Message from the PCMS Foundation

Hello Patriot Families!

The PCMS Foundation is thrilled to welcome back our families for the 2019-2020 school year! Hopefully everyone enjoyed their summer, got some needed rest and relaxation, and has adjusted over the last week to getting back into the school groove.  We know our teachers have lots of exciting academic adventures to take our students on over the next year and are looking forward to getting to know their students and families.

While we would have loved to be seaside, the Foundation was hard at work this summer, identifying ways to support our students, staff, and school community. When looking at the things that make PCMS so special and also pinpointing the areas we have to grow and improve in, we felt the theme of “Better Together” this year fit perfectly.

Under this theme we're hoping to embrace the following goals:

  • Advocacy for our "Learning Cottages" - making sure they are safe and comfortable learning environments for our students. We want to make sure we give as much love and attention to the students outside our main building as those within. Ideas to support this goal: improved exterior beautification (garden/planting area), work with DCSD for covered walkway and replacing the single wide trailers with a quad, covered outdoor learning space.
  • Growing our programs that address teaching/encouraging empathy, kindness, and healthy social habits among our students and school community.  Ideas to support this goal: continued support for our standing Building Foundation programs, strengthen Special Friends and No Place For Hate, and increase parent education opportunities and in school opportunities to celebrate "being better together".
  • Create a space for effective school wide presentations. Idea to support this goal: install a projector and screen (connected to existing sound system) in the gym so PCMS can host more school wide speakers and events with audio and visual capabilities.   The other thing that we would like to encourage our parents to do is to please stay in touch with us. A side goal this year is to increase communication back and forth with our PCMS families. So, how can we stay in touch together? Easy!
  • With your continued support of the PCMS Foundation (through contributions to the Annual Patriot Fund and volunteer hours), we will be able to take the goals for this year and make them a reality.
  • Thanks to the past generosity of our school community, the Patriot Fund was able to accomplish great things last year. Most recently, this summer we installed automatic shades in the media center to allow teachers to collaborate together and conduct visual presentations for multiple classes at a time. We also purchased a large number of new walkie-talkies for our teachers and staff members, so that the safety network via communication was extended significantly.
  • There will of course be lots of other exciting business and projects that the Foundation takes on this year! Some of these areas are (but not limited to): improving existing academic programs, building our school wide STEM program, and supporting our amazing teachers and staff.
  • Attend the monthly foundation meetings. (The next on is on 8/22/19 at 7:30am in the media center. Yes, we know it’s early, but we promise that it’s a great way to start your day!)
  • Attend committee foundation meetings also – these dates will be listed on the eblast and updated on the school website as well.
  • Read your eblasts! Yup – easy way to stay in the know.
  • Join the PCMS Foundation Facebook page at PCMS Foundation
  • Feel free to send us emails with ideas, questions, or concerns. We love to hear great ideas, we need to hear feedback to grow, and we’re happy to help make sure concerns get placed into the right hands to be answered.

That’s it for now folks! We are looking forward to a tremendous year and getting to know our school family!

Sincerely,

Your PCMS Foundation Co-Chairs

Erika Harris and Emily Ceo

Patriot Football

Hello and happy football season! Welcome to the 2019 season of Patriot football. My name is Coach Abrams and I am the new Head Football Coach at Peachtree Charter Middle School. I am formally inviting you and your child to join our football family. Dr. Davis and I are excited about the new direction our football program is taking, and the positive influences football will have on your child. In our program, I will teach your child about the values of teamwork, competition, and perseverance! I will show them how to play football safely by using proper techniques and abiding by GHSA procedures and protocols. But most importantly, I will ensure each player has fun playing football, and hopefully they will develop the same love for the game that I obtained when I was a child.

We would love to invite you and your family to join us at the Peachtree Middle gymnasium on Friday, August 2nd, at 6 PM. This will be a formal introduction with parents and players to myself and my assistants. At this meeting we will give out the upcoming schedule, go over the expectations and requirements of students/parents, and answer any questions you may have. Our first practice will begin on the first day of school, August 5th, at 4:30 pm. If you would like to be a volunteer coach, team mom/dad, or help assist in any capacity please contact Coach Abrams.

Please view the attachment, it pertains the following:

*One Team/One Dekalb meet and greet on July 27th- There will be FREE refreshments, games, prizes, and most importantly FREE sports physicals. (Please wear Patriot gear)

*Parent consent form- Please fill out, sign and return to me by August 5th.

*Sports physical forms- Each player must have completed and passed their physical before they can participate in any football activities.
